Construction Waste Management: How Tidy Sites Finish Faster And Invoice Less

Walk two building sites in the same week, as we regularly do around Bedford and Milton Keynes, and you can predict a surprising amount from the waste corner alone.

Site one has a single overflowing mixed skip with a broken pallet leaning against it and something that might be plasterboard getting rained on. Site two has rubble in one bay, timber in another, metal in a stillage, cardboard flattened, and board stored dry under cover. Same trade, same county, but site two is finishing its jobs faster, invoicing less for disposal, and sailing through its paperwork checks, and the correlation is not a coincidence.

Construction and demolition produce more waste than any other sector in the country, which means no other sector has more money lying in its waste stream. Here is how the tidy sites do it.

The Economics: Mixed Is The Most Expensive Word In Waste

Three questions per project. What waste will this job actually produce? A loft conversion, a demolition, and a refit have utterly different profiles: forecast the big streams honestly. Where will each stream go?
